A Film A Day: “The French Dispatch”

Day 2 of ?

Today’s film of the day was The French Dispatch. I watched it at Alamo Drafthouse with Hal, as part of one of our fun day dates. 🙂

The French Dispatch is a fun Wes Anderson romp into journalism. Careening from a story about a jailed artist to a revolutionary to a kidnapped police chiefs child, there’s many hijinks for Wes to involve Owen Wilson and Frances McDormand in.

It’s fun and everything you want in a Wes Anderson film, including not really knowing how to use his female powerhouses (ahem, Saorise Ronan). It gives me hope for speciality box office, along with Last Night in Soho.

Is it my favorite Wes? Honestly, no. It’s missing something that I haven’t placed my finger on yet. It just felt different, and I’m not sure why quite yet.

What film should I watch for tomorrow?
